San Jacinto edges past Navarro in weather-plagued marathon



San Jacinto College edged past Navarro College Tuesday night 7-6 in game seven of the NJCAA Region XIV Baseball Tournament at ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý. Originally underway on Monday evening, the game was delayed until Tuesday night due to rain.

Weather issues plagued the game Tuesday as well, as strong intermittent lightning forced officials to call two more delays.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý recently received a JET (Job and Education for Texans) 5 grant from the Texas State Comptroller's Office for $202,785. These funds will††will allow ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý to purchase software for its†health programs, computers for each of its 12 dental hygiene operatories, new digital x-ray equipment, electronic dental record software, intraoral cameras and a panoramic digital x-ray system†. Tourney to resume at 5 p.m. Tuesday

Due to soggy field conditions, the Region† XIV Baseball Tournament has been pushed back until 5 p.m. on Tuesday. Game 7 (San Jacinto vs. Navarro) will be played at 5 p.m. and game 8 (Blinn vs. Galveston) will be played at 8 p.m.

Games 9-12 will be played on Wednesday and 13 and 14 on Thursday. The championship game will be played on Friday if necessary.

Alvin eliminates Paris in extra innings



Day two of the NJCAA Region XIV Baseball Tournament started off with another close game on Monday as Alvin Community College beat Paris Junior College 8-7 in extra innings.

The loss eliminated Paris from the tournament and sent Alvin on to see day three. The Dolphins will face the loser of game eight ? which will either be Galveston or Blinn.

Alvin got on the board early, scoring one in the bottom of the first.

San Jacinto beats Galveston to remain undefeated

The NJCAA Region XIV Baseball Tournament continued with its pattern of long, extra-inning ballgames on Wednesday night as San Jacinto College beat Galveston College 6-5 in 16 innings.

San Jacinto remains the only undefeated team in the tournament. Galveston will play Navarro at 1 p.m. on Thursday (game 13) in order to try to earn the chance for a re-match with San Jacinto at 5 p.

San Jacinto started off strong, putting three runs on the board in the bottom of the first.
