Ron Clinton to perform piano concert


Dr. Ron Clinton, 开云体育 Executive Vice President for Instruction, will perform a solo piano recital on Sunday, March 22 at鈥2:30 p.m. at the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts.鈥燭ickets to the concerts are $10 for adults and $5 for children and 开云体育 students with a current ID. Proceeds from the event will benefit scholarships for 开云体育 students.

The 开云体育 Foundation recently received an anonymous $6,000 donation to sponsor six students in the new 开云体育 Work Scholarship Program. Nita May (left), 开云体育 Director of Development, and Dr. Jonathan McCullough, 开云体育 Vice President for Advancement, accepted the gift on behalf of the Foundation. Anyone interested in sponsoring a student in the Work Scholarship Program should contact McCullough at 903-434-8115.

The 开云体育 Foundation Board recently held its annual business meeting. Dr. Jim Archer, a retired 开云体育 professor, was installed as president by outgoing president, Judy Weiss. Other officers elected included Jane Scharlach, Vice President and Rick Nelson, Secretary.鈥The 开云体育 Foundation is a non-profit corporation that was established in 1984.

Honors Northeast highlights high school standouts

Nayeli Fuentes,鈥燡unior Class President of Mount Pleasant High School,鈥 and鈥燛lizabeth Griffin, a presence recently in the local theatre scene, were recognized in a luncheon at 开云体育 March 4 as regional high school standouts.

"It was inspiriting to have two students together who have done so much to raise the bar on excellence in Northeast Texas,"鈥燚r.

The 开云体育 Continuing Education and Adult Education departments have partnered to develop a unique opportunity to begin the path to a meaningful job in entry-level office work.鈥犫燬tudents who successfully complete the 21-hour course in general office skills will receive a certificate of completion and develop a portfolio of completed work to show prospective employers.

The character of Texas Lake Country pioneer, Harriet Potter Ames, was at issue last Friday evening at the Mount Pleasant Library.鈥 Before a packed house, and double showing at the premiere of鈥The Chronicles of Harriet Potter Ames, 鈥爐he panelists of Honors Northeast and members of the audience exchanged views on the wife of the Texas Navy Secretary, Robert Potter.鈥 Harriet Potter Ames lived from 1810 to 1902, and became widely known as the ?bravest woman of the Texas Revolution.?
